Not your typical stag party

June 15, 2018

Derrick and a group of his mates decided on an adventure holiday in lieu of the more typical stag party. That didn't mean it was ever gonna be a quiet one!!

Day 1 was a trip across the North Channel. We'd said if the wind was right, we'd continue to Portavadie. But it wasn't. So we pulled into Campbeltown for our first night. A quiet opener it was not. It kind of set the stage for these guys. At the very least, it meant we got a good rest before the hard work the following day. Our big jump too Largs was inhospitable at times but it soon cleared some weary heads on board. It seemed to generate a thirst, followed by an impressive appetite. Refreshments in Largs town was followed by some of the finest food from Scott's restaurant at Largs Marina. I seem to recall a rendition George Esra's 'Shotgun' back on board. A fine effort by the crew!

The welcome retreat at Portavadie awaited us after a spirited sail around the Kyles of Bute. Stunning as ever - it never fails to impress. Again, fine food and one or two beverages kept the craic flowing before our beat down to Campbeltown for some Chinese cuisine for the last night of our trip.

Funny - it was a quiet crossing back to Ballycastle the following morning. Go figure...
